Instead of simply retrieving stock prices, Pocket Investor fully utilizes the power of your Windows Mobile device providing a central place where you can track different types of investments, like stocks, options and mutual funds, enter activities, configure alerts, receive relevant news, access online media, analyze charts and much more, all in a convenient mobile interface. No other software in this segment offer so many features as Pocket Investor.
Pocket Investor requires Microsoft .NET Compact Framework version 2.0 or later. If it is not installed in your device yet, you can get it here. Note that Windows Mobile 6 devices normally have .NET Compact Framework 2 pre-installed in ROM.
No. Although Pocket Investor provides many facilities when used in online mode (automatic price updates at regular intervals, investment news etc), it may be used in a complete disconnected state. You may opt to connect to the Internet only eventually to retrieve price and news data (once a day, for example), or not to connect at all (see next question).
If your device is not able to connect to the Internet (or if the cost for updating data is not viable in your current data plan), you can update price data in three ways:
1) Connecting to the Internet using your desktop computer (via ActiveSync)
2) Importing price data from CSV files
3) Updating prices manually (via Price History screen)
You don't pay anything to Acquasys except for the cost of the program. Depending on your phone service plan, however, you may have the cost of data traffic (see next question).
It depends on your phone data plan. In this case, it is recommended to use a fixed data plan (you pay a fixed value monthly for unlimited access or for a reasonable amount of data). If this is not possible, you may use a desktop computer as a connection “bridge” while you are at work, for example. To avoid unnecessary data traffic, Pocket Investor includes a schedule facility that enables data updates only in a specific time period (for example, only on weekdays and while your stock exchange is open).
No, Pocket Investor requires touch-screen devices.
Pocket Investor can retrieve prices for all stocks and funds available in Yahoo! Finance (including worldwide stocks), as long as you specify the correct stock exchange symbol. Alternatively, you can configure Pocket Investor to extract the price from any publicly available web page where this information is published ("Capture From Info Page" update mode).
1) Check if there is an Internet connection available (via phone or ActiveSync);
2) Check if the stock symbol is correct, exactly as used in Yahoo! Finance;
3) For non-US stocks, check if the correct stock exchange symbol is specified. Check here for a list of valid symbols (third column, suffix - there is no need to include the period);
4) Check if the update mode for the stock is set to "Quote Provider";
5) If Automatic Update is enabled, check the update schedule settings (days and time period).
Pocket Investor uses only data stored on your device as the source for charts and summaries. You must first download or enter manually enough information like prices and activities before viewing them.
This is a known issue caused by a conflict between IE 6 (from WM 6.5) and a component present in Compact Framework 3.5. Microsoft has not made available a final solution yet, but in the meantime please copy
this file to Pocket Investor's installation folder in your device.
UPDATE: This fix is now applied automatically by Pocket Investor 3.1.2 and above. Let us know if you still have this problem with your device.
